Inspired by Elderflower Fields – Daisy

Elderflower Fields has welcomed thousands of kids, with some lucky enough to return year after year. Many of the youngsters who once played in the stream still return each May to share their skills, passion and time for this community event. This is what Elderflower Fields is all about.

Who was inspired? Daisy

What and when inspired you?

I’ve been coming to Elderflower Fields since I was 8 and have loved trying so many activities. Along with all the great art, performance and forest school activities, I also first tried parkour, pond dipping, tree canopy climbing, disc golf, archery, and so much more. Going to festivals introduced me to circus, and I got hooked.

What did you do as a result?

I joined a local circus club and loved it. I’d already done dance classes and gymnastics, but the circus world felt different and so welcoming. Everyone supports and encourages each other, and it didn’t feel competitive like other sports. I did my Duke Of Edinburgh award at the club, helping out beginners, and was then offered a paid job to pass on what I’d learnt.

I had the opportunity to perform as part of several big theatre shows with international touring circuses and knew this was what I wanted to do.

After finishing school, I applied to Circomedia, one of just 2 circus universities in the country and got in! This was pretty terrifying, as although I was confident in my aerial skills, I would be learning all aspects of circus.

What are you up to now?

This year has been crazy. I’ve been involved in running circus workshops at festivals and also done my first festival show on the biggest rig I’ve ever performed on! Currently, I’m in the 2nd year of my circus degree, learning new skills like straps and working hard on a show piece for Glastonbury next summer. A girl’s gotta dream big, right?

I also helped out at Elderflower Fields in May, running the family dance-off with my sister. Were you there?

What’s next, and will you be at Elderflower Fields next May?

I wouldn’t miss Elderflower Fields! I love big festivals, but there’s nothing like that feeling of freedom arriving there each time. It’s great to catch up with the friends we’ve made over the years and still be involved.

I’m saving to do my yoga teacher training in India once I finish my degree. Maybe you’ll see me teaching families at Elderflower Fields soon!
